Hi guys! I have a new website with photos of recent projects. Check out www.gilesfryer.com .
Bike Art
Here's a little project I have been working on with the assistance of a few folk. It's an old Centurion road bike that I found in a shed up in the Blue Mountains. The components were falling into disrepair after being unused for 15 years, but a bit of elbow grease and a new coat of paint has brought it back to life!
Blue mountains Street Art Collaborative
Congratulations to Jarrod Wheatley and BMSAC for receiving the prize for Exceptional Project within a Not For Profit Organisation category at the inaugural Western Sydney Zest Awards on thursday. BMSAC is completely deserving of this award and it demonstrates how valuable the project is to breaking the barriers between the community and graffiti artists by validating their craft through legal means. I have been lucky enough to have been included as part of some of the group murals, one of them being that which Jarrod is standing in front of in the photo. It is a painting of Hal's moving castle by Hayao Mayazaki, an anime artist, which was painted on Macquarie street in Springwood in the Blue Mountains.
Also, check out Jarrod's latest project with BMSAC.
Darlinghurst/Rushcutter's Bay Mural
This work was privately commissioned by the clients who approached whilst I was painting the Bondi sea wall! The premise behind the piece was to make the existing metal roller door as the entrance to the rear courtyard seem as if it were the third wall of the garden. I mimicked the two side walls in trompe l'oeil style by including the same colours for the wall and the flower beds...full of gardenias and camelias.
The window appropriated the style of white french doors that entered from the courtyard into the house's kitchen. It was quite difficult to get the detail of the window and the leaves of the plants correct given the corrugated surface of the roller door, however I was happy with the end result!
Let's make Oslo colourful!
I will be going on exchange from June next year for 12 months to Oslo, Norway and I don't think it is possible for me to stop painting just because I will be on the other side of the world! So I want to take my murals up there with me! To any of you guys up there, please contact me if you have any ideas or advice as to how I could possibly find my way into some mural/painting jobs whilst over there. I would really appreciate it...

Bondi Beach Legal Wall
I have just spent two very warm, spring days painting the legal wall on the promenade at Bondi Beach! The opportunity to paint on such a highly regarded wall with the amount of exposure its location undoubtedly provides could not be turned down despite changes to the area of the wall I was allocated to paint. However, there are still some additions that have to be done for the mural to be fully finished and work more cohesively as a single work.
Thanks very much to everyone who came on both Friday and saturday and special mention to Jarrod Wheatley from Blue Mountains Street Art Collaborative (BMSAC) who provided great support and some supplies!
